Pediatric Orthodontics

It is important to make sure that your child’s teeth undergo proper growth and development during the transition phase if you don’t want your child to undergo extensive orthodontic treatments or invasive surgeries in their teens. Ideally, when children turn 7, they should be taken to the orthodontist for their first evaluation because this is when their permanent teeth start erupting. At Brite Orthodontics in Rome,New Hartford & Watertown NY, we offer kid-friendly Two-Phase Orthodontic Treatment which is widely used for straightening teeth and achieving a functional bite.

Child braces

Phase One – Interceptive Orthodontic Treatment

Also known as interceptive treatment, the phase one orthodontic treatment employs different oral appliances including a partial set of dental braces and palatal expander depending on your child’s unique treatment needs. The first phase typically spans over a duration of 6-12 months and plays a vital role in laying a firm foundation for proper growth and eruption of your child’s permanent teeth. The interceptive orthodontic treatment is followed by a resting phase.

Phase Two –Orthodontic Treatment

This stage involves the application of full braces on the upper and lower teeth depending on your child’s customized treatment plan. If your child has undergone his/her interceptive orthodontic treatment at Brite Orthodontics, the second phase will be quicker and easier. Our orthodontic treatments include traditional metal braces, ceramic braces, and clear aligners like Invisalign® for teens and adults and 3M™ Clarity™ Aligners.

The ideal age for children to undergo the second phase of the orthodontic treatment is 11-15 years and this phase lasts for around 12-20 months. It is recommended to start early with your child’s orthodontic treatment to avoid complications and painful surgical procedures later.
